For current students interested in learning about public service, housing, and community development
For current WHA residents who want to build new skills and gain hands-on experience working directly in their community.
The Admissions Department and Leased Housing Department serve applicants and participants in the WHA’s public and leased housing programs, including processing applications, conducting screenings, making determinations regarding eligibility, and generally assisting applicants, participants, and landlords through the entire process from start to home in compliance with federal and state rules and regulations.
The Family & Resident Services (FRS) Department administers the WHA’s innovative and progressive self-sufficiency programs including, A Better Life (ABL); Family Self Sufficiency (FSS); Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS); and Transitional Housing Program (THP). In addition, FRS coordinates and provides a number of services and activities for adults, children, and families living in public housing.
The Maintenance and Modernization departments ensure the quality and longevity of our properties through three core functions: essential Maintenance and repairs, significant property upgrades via Modernization projects, and management of the Regional Capital Assistance Team (RCAT), which secures and administers capital funding for WHA and other regional housing authorities.
The Property Management Department manages all 24 WHA public housing developments through 5 main property management offices. The management team calculates rent, acts as the main point-of-contact for residents, conducts apartment showings, ensures unit turnovers are completed quickly and completely, initiates lease enforcement procedures, collects rent, and maintains the financial, physical, and legal upkeep of WHA properties.
The WHA is home to 3,000 families living in 24 separate communities throughout the City of Worcester. Our residents speak more than a dozen languages and range in age from very young children to frail seniors. Groundskeeping & Landscaping
Plant flowers, mulch, trim, and maintain green spaces across WHA properties.
Site Beautification
Support painting, light repairs, and general upkeep to keep our communities clean and inviting.
Community Cleanups
Participate in neighborhood cleanup days to refresh outdoor spaces and promote resident pride.
Resident Event Support
Assist with community events, food distributions, and holiday initiatives.
Additionally, many of our residents are comfortable using today’s computer technologies. Help expand their world by teaching a workshop on basic internet use, social media, or Microsoft Office programs.
